Sri Lanka revolutionised the one-day format with their manic hitting in the first 15 overs, and won the final match against Australia by 7 wickets. Arvinda de Silva was man of the match for his unbeaten 107 runs and picked-up 3 wickets in his 9 overs spending 42 runs.

Two groups of six: each team played all the others in its group to determine the quarter-finalists. The top four in each group qualified for the quarter-finals, followed by semi-finals and a final.
